W2G Handpay

Know what you'll be taxed on.

You can finish the year down and still owe tax on your winnings. W2G Handpay keeps the diary the IRS asks for and shows you that number as it happens — not in April.

$19.99, once. Free to download, then a one-time Lifetime Access purchase unlocks the app. No subscription, no accounts, no ads.

What changed for 2026

Only 90% of your losses count now

For decades, gambling losses offset winnings dollar for dollar, up to the amount you won. From the 2026 tax year, the deduction is capped at 90% of losses. A break-even year is no longer a zero on your return.

Winning sessions
$50,000
Losing sessions
$50,000
Actually came home with

Deductible at 90%
$45,000
Taxable gambling income
$5,000

You broke even and are taxed on $5,000 you never kept. W2G Handpay calls that figure out by name on its main screen, for the year you are actually in — and it only counts if you itemize, which is a question the app asks you rather than assumes.

What W2G Handpay does

A diary that stands up, and the arithmetic behind it

IRS guidance asks for a contemporaneous diary — a record written while you are still at the property, not reconstructed months later. W2G Handpay is built to be fast enough to use at the machine, and complete enough to hand to a preparer.

📓

Every diary field

Date, type of wager, the machine or table, the establishment and its address, who was with you, and the amounts. Anything still blank is flagged on the record rather than silently accepted.

📄

W-2G scanning

Photograph the form and W2G Handpay reads box 1, the date won, the type of wager, federal withholding and the state boxes — then shows you what it read so you can correct it before saving.

🔒

It never reads your SSN

A W-2G carries your Social Security number in box 9 and licence numbers in boxes 11 and 12. W2G Handpay locates those boxes specifically so it can exclude them. They are never read out, never stored as text, never transmitted.

🎟️

Ticket & meter scanning

Scan a TITO cash-out voucher for its value and validation number, or a credit meter straight off the glass. Credits are flagged as credits, so they never get filed as dollars by mistake.

⚖️

The real 2026 rules

The 90% loss limit, the $2,000 reporting threshold for slots, bingo and keno, the 300× wager test for other bets, and the separate table-game rules — each cited to the statute and Federal Register notice it comes from.

⚠️

W-2G matching exposure

The IRS matches the forms payers file against your return automatically. When your logged winnings don't cover the forms, W2G Handpay says so — and says when the gap is legitimate, because a jackpot inside a losing session genuinely produces no income.

🧮

Session method, shown in full

Winning and losing sessions are totalled separately and never netted before the limit is applied — which is exactly where phantom income comes from. Every intermediate step is on screen.

🎰

Wins that aren't jackpots

Every dollar won is income whether or not a form was issued. A session ground up in small wins counts exactly the same as one handpay of the same size, and W2G Handpay treats it that way.

🏛️

Several W-2Gs per session

One night can produce more than one reportable win, and each is filed separately — even when the session around them ended down. Attach as many as you actually got.

📍

Casino locator

Find the property you're standing in and fill in its name and address in a tap. This is the only feature that touches the network, and only while you're using it.

📤

Export for your preparer

A CSV with the full session diary, the tax summary, the scope limits, and the authority behind every rule applied. Written for the person doing your return, not for you.

📅

Future years when they arrive

A tax year you haven't reached yet isn't something you can have a position in, so it isn't offered. 2027 appears on its own the day 2027 does.

How it works

Three things, at the property

01

Log the session

Money in, money out, where you were and what you played. Thirty seconds at the machine is worth more than an hour of remembering in April.

02

Scan what you're handed

The W-2G when you get a handpay, the voucher when you cash out. Both are read on the device and kept with the session as substantiation.

03

Watch the real number

Your federal position updates as you go — including the tax on money you never kept, which is the figure most people never see until it's too late to plan around.

Privacy

Your records never leave your phone

There are no accounts and no sign-up. Every session, every W-2G, and every photograph is stored on your device. W2G Handpay has no server, and your diary is never uploaded anywhere.

Form and ticket images are read using Apple's on-device text recognition. Nothing is sent away to be processed. The only features that touch the network are the casino locator — only while you're searching — and processing your one-time purchase.

Your records leave the device only when you choose to export them and send them somewhere yourself.

What W2G Handpay is not

W2G Handpay is a record-keeping aid. It is not tax advice and not a substitute for a tax professional. Its figures follow the rules it cites and should be confirmed against current IRS guidance before you file.

Everything it calculates is federal only. State income tax is not modelled at all. Several states tax gambling winnings while allowing no deduction for losses, which can make your real position considerably worse than the federal one.

W2G Handpay does not enable, facilitate, or encourage gambling. It is a ledger, never an optimizer, and it will never tell you what or when to play. If gambling has stopped being fun, call 1-800-GAMBLER.
