Respiratory Study Buddy · Last updated September 9, 2026

The short version. Respiratory Study Buddy is a study aid for respiratory therapy students and professionals preparing for board exams. It is not a doctor, does not diagnose anything, and is not for guiding the care of a real patient. It is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NBRC or any credentialing body. In an emergency, call your local emergency number — 911 in the United States — not this app.

1. Agreement to these terms

The app asks you to confirm you have read and agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy before you can use it, and by checking that box you agree to both. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. What the app is for

Respiratory Study Buddy provides study questions with explanations, registry tips, and clinical pearls; practice quizzes and a full-length mock exam; branching clinical-simulation (CSE) cases with a decision review; an ABG Calculator that shows its formulas and step-by-step math; a lung-sounds learning center; a chest X-ray reference atlas; a ventilator lab; illustrated waveform and reference notes; and a study calendar. That is the full scope of what it does.

3. What the app does not do

Respiratory Study Buddy never diagnoses a condition, never recommends or changes a treatment, medication, or ventilator setting for a real patient, and never replaces urgent or emergency care. Its questions, cases, calculators, waveforms, images, and recordings are teaching materials. Anything you enter — a calculator value, a calendar date, a saved card — comes from you, and the app only stores and organizes it back to you.

4. Not medical advice

Nothing in this app is medical advice, and nothing in it should be used to guide the care of an actual patient. Real clinical decisions should always follow your institution's protocols, current evidence-based guidelines, manufacturer instructions, and the judgment of licensed healthcare professionals. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number right away.

5. Content accuracy

Educational content is written to be consistent with current, widely accepted respiratory care guidance — from sources including the AARC, NBRC content outlines, GOLD, GINA, ATS/ERS, the CDC, and FDA labeling — and is revised over time. Respiratory care standards, medications, equipment, guidelines, and exam blueprints change, and mistakes are possible despite that care. Cross-check anything exam-critical or clinically important against current authoritative sources. If a card disagrees with one of those sources, that is a bug — send it in from the Contact / Feedback screen and it gets fixed.

6. Provided "as is," no warranties

The app and its content are provided as is, without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose, including preparing you for a specific exam or credential. We do not guarantee the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, and no representation is made that using it will result in a passing examination score.

7. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for exam results, errors in the content, or any other outcome connected to your use of the app, including decisions made based on its content. To the same extent, our total liability to you for any claim connected to the app is limited to the amount you actually paid us for it — which, if you bought the one-time Full Access unlock, is that purchase price, and otherwise is nothing. Nothing here limits rights that consumer protection law in your country or state gives you and will not let us take away.

8. Assumption of risk

Preparing for a credentialing exam and working in respiratory care both involve real responsibility, and a study app does not remove it. By using Respiratory Study Buddy, you accept responsibility for the decisions you make about your own studying and, separately, for any clinical decision you make in practice — which must rest on your training, your institution's protocols, and licensed supervision, not on this app's content.

9. Indemnification

If a claim, loss, or expense arises from your use of the app in a way that violates these terms, you agree to reimburse us for reasonable costs connected to defending against it. This does not apply to claims arising from our own violation of these terms or of applicable law.

10. Purchases

The app is free to download. For the first 3 days after you first open it, every deck and tool is unlocked. After that, a free sampler stays available for as long as you like, and the rest ("Full Access") can be unlocked with a single optional one-time in-app purchase of $9.99 (United States; the equivalent amount in your local currency elsewhere, as set by Apple's App Store). Full Access is a non-consumable purchase — there is no subscription and no recurring charge.

The purchase is processed by Apple through your App Store account. We never receive or store your payment details, your card, or your Apple ID. If you reinstall the app or use another device signed in with the same Apple ID, "Restore Purchases" re-activates the unlock at no extra cost. Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store's policies, not by us.

The screen that offers Full Access is provided by Superwall, a third-party service. It is involved only with that offer screen and receives nothing you study, enter, or track in the app. See the Privacy Policy for what it does and does not receive.

We may change the price for future buyers, or change which features are free versus part of Full Access. A change like that never revokes an unlock you have already paid for. If the purchase model changes in a more significant way, this page will be updated before that version ships.

11. Third-party links and references

Some screens link out to other organizations' websites — the NBRC, the AARC, CoARC, PSI, GOLD, GINA, the CDC, the FDA's DailyMed, and others — and to the source and license pages for the lung-sound recordings and chest X-ray images used in the app. Those pages belong to their own organizations, under their own terms and privacy practices. Respiratory Study Buddy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NBRC, the AARC, the GOLD Initiative, or any organization it links to or references.

12. Intellectual property

Respiratory Study Buddy and its original content — questions, explanations, clinical pearls, registry tips, illustrations, and branding — are owned by their respective owner(s). The question bank and tools are licensed for your personal study use; copying, redistributing, or reselling the content without permission is not allowed. Some lung-sound recordings and chest X-ray images are third-party, open-license material — see the in-app Audio Credits & Licenses and Medical Image Credits pages for the source, license, and attribution of each. All third-party product, organization, and examination names and marks referenced in the app remain the property of their respective owners and are used only for identification and education.

13. Independent product

Respiratory Study Buddy is an independent app built by SkillQuestApps. It is not a medical device, has not been evaluated or cleared by the FDA, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) or any other testing organization.

14. Who this app is for

Respiratory Study Buddy is intended for respiratory therapy students and practicing professionals. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

15. Your privacy

Respiratory Study Buddy has no account and no server of ours — what you study and enter stays on your device. See the full Privacy Policy for exactly what is stored and the one component (Superwall, around the Full Access offer screen) that involves the internet at all.

16. Availability of the app

We may update, change, or discontinue Respiratory Study Buddy, or any part of it, at any time. Because there is no account, there is nothing for us to individually suspend or terminate — removing the app from your device stops your use of it. If we ever discontinue the app entirely, we will aim to give reasonable notice through its App Store listing.

17. General

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and SkillQuestApps about Respiratory Study Buddy, and replace any earlier understanding about it. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not act on a violation of these terms right away, that does not waive our right to act on it later. We may assign these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign them without our consent.

18. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute not otherwise resolved will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California, and you agree to that venue. This does not limit any right you have under your own state's or country's consumer protection law that this clause cannot override.

19. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the update will ship with the app version it applies to, and the date at the top of this page will change.
